I have finally worked out why we use jeera in chholar dal: to camouflage the insects.
I bet all this time you thought it was for the taste.

Minka -- Depends on his mood, but yes, probably happier eating insects than not. In this case though I had adult guests in mind. Who might not view insects with the same enthusiasm.

i remember my mother telling me the bakery wallah puts raisins in the cake to camouflage all the boogers. What is it with all you moms?!!

Eek, I hate jeera. I would make my mom take it out of everything that I was ever served to eat as a child.
