Go on, speak it out aloud. Su-na-ya-na.
It's pronounced Soo-NA-e-na, focus on the second syllable and none on the third. I only spell it the way I do because my Bengali grandfather spelled it that way and a Bengali would pronounce my name Shoo-nau-yo-naa where the 'ya' is drawn out the wee-est bit.
A lot of non-Indians have this problem with pronouncing Sunayana, they simply don't know what to do with the 'ya'. I was reminded of it when I watched the Persian version of the BBC Blogworld Superpower show where they used clips from my video.
Now you know why Afee called me Sue all those years ago!

Have suffered enough with all the mispronunciations of my name (and you can relate to my name ;)), but it was all put in perspective when my in-laws tried to change it to another name. At that point, I appreciated every single person who'd mangled my name all thru my life!!!
Liked trying out the Bengali pronunciation!!! Sounds regal!
I so know what you mean! I've always been Anchal (with a single 'A', and pronounced more like 'unchal'), instead of Aanchal.
And, there've been some people who've not understood my name at all, and decided to call me Archana(!!) instead.
I have heard some very irritating pronunciations of my name.. but I don't blame them.. they just don't know those sounds!
so why didn't you correct me all this time, "pretty eyes"? :)
I like Sue. How are you, Sue?
Starry -- You have a perfectly lovely name, dude, I don't understand why anybody would wish to change it.
Remind me to mail you the Bengali pronunciation of your name, it sounds very beautiful.
Anchal -- Agh, I'm one of those who've said "Aanchal" all this time. I stand duly corrected. Wherever did the Archana come from!
Aathira -- Ah, now yours is a truly unusual name.
Pat -- Because you never say it wrong, my Pat. :)
Humbug -- I like Sue too. I'm fine, thank you. How are you?
but you missed out the "Debi" part, not to mention all the rest that follows?
Vicky -- Go away and don't you dare spill the beans here.
Soo Na E Na !! You just made your name sound so very Korean !!
Only you Sue, only you can do something like this !! :D
There is a most awful film version of Byomkesh Bakshi's Chiriyakhana directed by none other than Ray. People should watch it, at least, a couple of minutes around the 20 minute mark. Most interesting...
LOL! I have had my name pronounced wrong for 10 years now. People here always place emphasis on the wrong syllable. Only three people so far (current boss, one coworker and one ex-coworker) have picked up on the correct pronunciation. Others just call me something that rhymes with "maroo" as in "doob maroo" :P
I have also been called "Katrina", "Jaaroo" and "Kaaroo". Sigh!
I don't have a problem with the name, rather the surname. And I know why Vicky mentioned Chiriyakhana :) Btw, you're looking very pretty in the clips.
What is Vicky going on about? Tell tell.
I am well. I am also very sleepy which should say a lot since its already thirty minutes past nine in the morning.
The Americans insisted on calling me 'Gar-jee'. I'm sure you're better off than me :-(
gr8 blog
Oh-ho! No, no - I meant I've been "Anchal" because people wrongly call me that. It is actually "Aanchal". :)
Sunayna is a v beautiful Bengali name - enchanting eyes :). Sue for people north and south of 66 1/2 degrees.
I am ANJAN - again something to do with eyes.
Congo Sq keeps winters alive in DI.
I love ur name and starry's - so musical!
u celeb and all now- me wants autograph please
I know how it feels. I got so tired of people just butchering my name that I cut out the "hard" part of my name and went by just 'Priya' when I started working. Three years and it still doesn't feel like my real name. Ah, just to have someone say my name right...
Gauriiii -- There was a time when my Baramama referred to me as Foo Li (Phuli, my other pet name). So I can be Chinese as well as Korean. :)
Vicky -- You're asking to be banned from these parts, mister.
Cee -- Doob maroo, ROTFL. Wherever did Katrina come from?
Mystic -- Ki embarassing, bolo. He's keep saying that line with the most disgusting leer when he first made the connection. Thanks for watching the video. :)
Spin -- Nothing, really. The man blathers.
Humbag -- I hope you got a nice nap, then.
Casuarina -- Yeah, yours would be difficult I suppose.
Anil -- Thanks.
Anchal -- Ah, OK. :)
Anjan -- Yes, they do good work.
Art -- :P You should talk.
Padma -- But how is your name hard??
I prefer shoo noy na myself :D
